1. Dycon, a pharmaceutical company, wants to establish a new production system for
logistics to carter to growing market demand. For this a team is formed whose sole
purpose is to establish a total linkage system between production, sales and logistics.
Explain how this team should go about to establish a Market Linkage Production System
(MLPS) that will eliminate overstock and shortage problems.

2. A hardware stores stocks paints in a warehouse and sells them through its retail stores.
The warehouse stocks different shades of paint, however, the maximum sale is for white
shade. The forecasted demand for white shade is 10,000 liters per annum. The estimated
cost of carrying inventory of white paint is Rs.0.75 per liter. It costs the stores Rs.150 to
place an order for paint. The store’s manager wants to find the optimal order size and total
inventory cost for white paint. Can you help him find answers to his question?

3. Mode of transport is a general term for the different kinds of transport facilities that are
often used to transport people or cargo. Where more than one mode of transport is used
for a journey, it can be described as multi-modal.

a. What are the various multi-modal transport that can be used and what will be the benefits?
